From the Scriptural evidence available, we deduce that anything which seeks to detract from an all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving God and His purposes for human life is to be rejected.
Helping Strategy For the Non-Christian:
1. Commend his or her evident desire to know the truth. God's Word has an answer to the occult.
2. Strongly emphasize that any involvement with the occult is displeasing to God (see "Background").
3. Invite him or her to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Share "Steps to Peace with God," page 11.
4. Encourage the inquirer to sever all ties with people involved in the occult and to get rid of any literature and paraphernalia on magic and the occult, including horoscopes and Ouija boards.
5. Encourage reading and studying the Bible. Offer Living in Christ, explaining its purpose.
6. Encourage seeking fellowship with committed Christians in a Bibleteaching church for worship, Bible study, prayer, and Christian service. Development of new relationships will be a big help in erasing the past.
7. Pray for complete deliverance from the former interest in occult practices and for full commitment to Christ. For the Christian:
1. Explain that any involvement in the occult displeases God (see "Background").
2. If the inquirer is anxious because of the uncertainties of life, wanting to know the future, offer the assurance that God has promised to "never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5).
