    About the author

    Andrew Murray (1828–1917) was a South African pastor, teacher and writer of the Dutch Reformed Church, one of the most widely read devotional authors of the nineteenth century. Educated in Scotland and Holland, he served congregations in Bloemfontein, Worcester, Cape Town and Wellington, South Africa, and wrote more than 200 books on the deeper Christian life, including Abide in Christ, With Christ in the School of Prayer, and The Holiest of All, his exposition of the Epistle to the Hebrews.

    This web edition reproduces the original 1894 first English edition of The Holiest of All, which is in the public domain. The text was digitized from a scanned copy of the first edition and carefully proofread against the scan; the Preface, the full text of the Epistle to the Hebrews, the Introduction, and all eighteen sections and five warnings of Murray's exposition (130 numbered daily readings in all) are included in their original order. A small number of words in the full reprint of the Epistle text (front matter, Chapter 2) remain uncertain because of the scan's dense two-column marginal notes; these do not affect Murray's own exposition, which forms the body of the book.
